Your recipes belong in your kitchen. Here’s how HalfSheet handles your information.

This policy covers the HalfSheet Mac app and halfsheet.app. HalfSheet is provided by Frederico. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].

Your recipe library

Recipes, ingredients, prices, methods, and related library information are stored on your device. When iCloud is available and enabled for the app, the library syncs using Apple CloudKit in your private iCloud database. The app does not upload your library to a HalfSheet server. HalfSheet does not require an account with us.

Apple processes iCloud data under its own terms and privacy policy. You can manage iCloud access through your device’s System Settings. Turning off sync does not, by itself, delete previously stored copies.

Nutrition searches

If you search for nutrition information, the app connects directly to USDA FoodData Central. That service receives the search text or requested food identifier, your IP address, the app’s user agent, and an API key. The app uses a shared demo key unless you enter your own. We do not receive these requests on a HalfSheet server. Your full recipe library is not sent with a nutrition search.

Your own USDA key is stored in the macOS Keychain. You can remove it in HalfSheet Settings → Nutrition. Retrieved food details may be cached on your device. USDA and api.data.gov operate these services under their own privacy policies. Avoid entering personal information in a food search.

Analytics and advertising

The app has no advertising or third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell your personal information or use your recipes for advertising. Apple may separately process App Store transaction information and diagnostic reports according to your Apple settings and its policies.

Visiting this website

This website has no advertising, analytics scripts, embedded third-party media, or marketing cookies. Its pages and images are served from this website. Our hosting provider and Cloudflare process technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, and request times, to deliver and protect the website. Cloudflare may use essential security cookies when necessary. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

We do not enable a separate visitor access log for this website on our server. Operational or security records may be retained by our infrastructure providers under their policies. The website does not receive your in-app recipe data.

Contacting us

If you email support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use that information to respond and resolve the issue. Please send only the details needed for support and remove private recipe content, credentials, and other sensitive information from attachments.

We keep support correspondence while it is needed to address your request and related follow-up, or to meet legal obligations. You can request deletion by email. Information may also be processed by the email provider used to deliver and store the correspondence.

Deleting and managing data

You control your library in the app. Deleted recipes and ingredients move to Recently Deleted, where you can restore them or delete them permanently. The app removes items that have been in Recently Deleted for more than 30 days when its cleanup runs. With iCloud sync active, library changes are synchronized through Apple.

You can manage stored iCloud app data in Apple’s account and storage settings. Removing the app alone may not remove iCloud copies, backups, exported files, or a stored Keychain credential. Copies you export or back up remain where you saved them until you delete them. Contact us if you need help finding the relevant controls; we cannot erase your private iCloud library on your behalf.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of personal information, object to processing, or complain to your local privacy authority. Contact us to exercise rights concerning information we hold, such as support correspondence.

Service providers and security

We use infrastructure and email providers to operate the website and respond to support. We share information only as needed for those purposes, when you direct us to do so, or when legally required. Providers may process information in countries other than your own. We use HTTPS for website traffic and the app’s nutrition requests. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Children and policy updates

HalfSheet is a general-purpose cooking tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit children’s personal information. Please contact us if a child has sent personal information to support so we can address it.

We may update this policy when the app or our practices change. The date above identifies the latest version. Material changes will be described here and, where appropriate, within the app.
